Getting Ready to Leave:

Change of Address

  Fill out Change of Address Card at Post Office.

   Change credit cards and charge accounts.

  Notify subscriptions.

Bank Change

   Transfer funds; arrange check cashing in new city.

   Arrange credit references.

Insurance

   Notify company of new location for coverage: life, health, auto, fire, etc.

Utility Companies

   Gas, light, water, telephone, fuel, garbage, and cable.

Medical, Dental, Prescription, Etc.

   Ask Dr. for needed referrals, transfer prescriptions, etc.

   Obtain birth records, medical records, etc.

Pets

   Inquire/Obtain licenses, tags, vaccinations, etc.

On Date of Move

   Carry enough cash to cover the cost of moving services

   Carry jewelry & documents yourself.

   Plan for transporting pets.

   Carry traveler’s checks for quick funds.

   Let friends & family know your travel schedule.

   Double check closets, drawers & shelves to make sure they are empty.

 Leave all keys with the Realtor, landlord or neighbor.

At Your New Home

   Obtain a certified check or cashier’s check for closing the real estate transaction.

   Check on service of utilities.

   Check pilot light on stove, hot water heater & furnace.

   Have appliances checked.

   Ask mailman for mail he might be holding.

   Have new address recorded on your driver’s license.

   Visit city offices and register to vote.

   Register all cars within 5 days.

   Obtain an inspection sticker & transfer motor club memberships.

   Apply for a state driver’s license.

   Register family in new place of worship.

   Register children in local schools.

   Arrange for medical services: doctors, dentists, veterinarian, etc.
