Westport is a waterfront community located on Long Island Sound and lies within Fairfield County. The Town underwent several name changes beginning with the Bankside in 1693, named after the Bankside Farmers who followed a herd of cattle to the area. The area was then renamed Green’s Farm in honor of John Green, a Bankside Farmer, in 1732 and finally the Town of Westport, incorporated in 1835.
